The last date for filing an income tax return is near and the most important document for filing your income tax return is your Pan card. The income tax department has issued a notification where it has specified the deadline for Linking Pan with Aadhar. The last date is 30 June 2023, after which defaulters will face some serious consequences which I have mentioned below.

What will happen if I have not linked my Pan with Aadhar?

If you have not linked your Pan with your Aadhar you will face the following consequences –

  • PAN will become Inoperative
  • Cannot file ITR
  • Refund will not be processed
  • Higher TDS will be charged

The government for the past few years is trying continuously to aware people to link their pan with Aadhar. For the first few years, it was free but from 1 July 2022, Government has imposed a fee of 1000/-, and if you want to link your PAN with Aadhar now, you have to pay the prescribed fees of 1000/-.

Penalty for filing a late return is 1000/- and 5000/-, depending on case to case, and hence if you have not linked your PAN with Aadhar, your burden will be 6000/- (5000+1000) or 2000/- (1000+1000) depending on case to case.

How to check, whether PAN is operative or Not?

  1. Go to the Income tax Website
  2. Select the option – Verify your PAN from the options available
  3. Enter the required information – PAN, Full name, DOB, and Mobile no.
  4. Then you can check whether your PAN is inoperative or not.

Will my PAN become operative again once it has been deactivated?

Upon Intimation of Aadhar to the prescribed authority and after paying the prescribed fees of Rs.1000/-, PAN can be made operative again.
